List of countries without an airport

Out of the 195 independent states,[1] only five have no airport included within their boundaries. All of these are in Europe and have a heliport, and all apart from Monaco are landlocked or double landlocked.

List of countries with no airport
No. Country Notes
1  Liechtenstein Currently, Liechtenstein only has a heliport in the southern town of Balzers.[2][3] The nearest international airports are St. Gallen-Altenrhein Airport in Switzerland and Friedrichshafen Airport in Germany, which have few scheduled flights. The nearest major airport is Zurich Airport in Switzerland, which has rail services to Buchs and Sargans.[4] From these towns, it is possible to catch a Postal Bus[4] or a train to Liechtenstein.
2  Andorra There is no airport in Andorra. The nearest airports are in Lleida, Barcelona, Toulouse and Girona.[5] By both population and by land area, Andorra is the largest country not to have an airport. However, there is one heliport.
3  Vatican City The nearest airport to the Vatican City is Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport. It would be physically impossible to fit a whole airport into the 0.44 km2 land area[6] of the Holy See, but there is a heliport located in the western corner, which is used for visiting heads and officials of the city-state.[7]
4  San Marino San Marino does not currently have an airport; instead, there is a heliport located at Borgo Maggiore.[8] The nearest airport is in Rimini, Italy.[9]
5  Monaco Monaco does not have an airport, but there is a heliport located in the Monagasque district of Fontvieille.[10] The nearest airport to Monaco is Cote d'Azur Airport in Nice, France.[11]
